Across Ohio,
Road_to_State

Around 7,000 high school golfers statewide are set to begin their journey with the goal of reaching their divisions State Golf Championships, scheduled for mid-October at the OSU Golf Club. The upcoming week signals the start of the initial stage, referred to as "Sectionals." During this phase, both Boys and Girls Programs from D2 Schools, along with Boys from D3 Schools, will be teeing off. It's important to note that State Golf has five school classifications: Boys D1, D2 & D3, and Girls D1 & D2.

In our region, the Southwestern District, one of six districts in the state, each Sectional event will qualify the top four teams and individuals for the District Championships. This fall, all District Championships will be hosted again by Heatherwoode Golf Club before moving onto Pipestone in 2024 as Heatherwoode undergoes an Irrigation Project next fall.

The chances of reaching the second level of the journey to the state, the District Championships, vary by division, ranging from 20% to 28%. For those aspiring to reach the State Championship, the odds are even slimmer, with probabilities ranging from as high as 6.5% in Boys D2 to as low as 3.4% in Girls D2.

As we move into the first week of October, larger schools in the D1 Classification will kick off their Sectionals, while smaller schools will hold their District Championships from Monday to Wednesday, October 3-5. The following week, the D1 Districts will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, October 11 & 12.  All five of the District Championship will again be live streamed on the City of Springboros YouTube Channel thanks to the support of the Miami Valley Cable Council and play will begin each day of the Districts at 10am

Last year's State Championships saw the Centerville Girls securing the Girls D1 Championship, while the Alter Boys claimed the Boys D2 Championship.

The success of High School Golf is attributed to the dedication of parents, coaches, schools, golf courses, and volunteers who invest countless hours in nurturing the next generation and fostering their love for our timeless game.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved, and we extend our best wishes to all the competitors!
