Last Revision for USGA Handicap System |
The Last Revision of the USGA Handicap System will be next Sunday, December 15th. If this email finds you in a warmer climate, continue to post scores as you always do. Everyone's complete score record will be transferred seemlessly into the new World Handicap System.
After we turn to the New Year, score posting will not be available until approximately January 6th, but as soon as the refreshed system is back online, please post your scores from the 1st through the 5th.
As far as your MVGA-GHIN membership everything will transfer to the new system.
Rolling out after the 1st of the year will be a refreshed Score Entry Kiosk, App and Website and the default score entry method will be hole by hole, which you can easily change. We will encourage you to post hole by hole so that the hole data can be leveraged to better support our game and so the new Max Score Feature can be correctly applied.

Historical Reflection |
In reflecting on events in our Games History many believe that the 1913 US Open won by Francis Ouimet brought golf into America's mainstream consciousness. Ouimet's, David over two Goliaths playoff victory over Ted Ray and Harry Vardon (The First Tiger Woods) left an indelible mark on our game and created almost a century of expansion.
If you are looking for some reading over the winter months we highly recommend the book, the Greatest Game Ever Played. Just watching the movie does not do enough, the book gives so much more detail on the golf landscape of the time and what it was like to live and earn a living in the game shortly after the turn of the last century.
With that though in mind we recreated the purse from the 1913 US Open and compared it to the 2019 US Open.
|
Notes:
- Amateurs still receive no compensation - Victor Hovland was low Amateur in 2019.
- Purse only paid top ten in 1913, All of the starting field received funds from USGA in 2019.
- In comparing it to highest paid player in baseball. In 1913 Fred Clark made $15,000 and in 2019 Mike Trout made $39,000,000.
