Three Way Tie for Metro Championship Heading into the Weekend

    Leaderboard  Photos

Bellbrook's Jeff Scohy, Miamisburg's Scott Thompson, and Cedarville's Ryan Bowen are in a three way tie for first place at the Miami Valley Metropolitan Championship at Windy Knoll Golf Club in Springfield after two rounds of play.

Scohy, who qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship on Monday, shot 70 in the first round and 69 in the second to put him at 3-under-par for the tournament. Thompson and Bowen had identical scores for the first two rounds as they each shot 69 and 70, respectively.

First round leader and 2009 champion Michael Bernard fell from the top spot after scoring four bogies and one double bogey on the day. Bernard shot a 75 during his second round and is now even.

The field will be reduced to 32 entrants for the final 36 holes, with the cut falling at 152 (10 over par).

The tournament runs through the weekend with the play beginning at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 31 and at 1:30 pm on Sunday, Aug. 1.

    Other news and notes:

*Northmont High School senior Nick Scott, who was tied for the first round lead with Michael Bernard, decided to withdrawal after the second round. Scott took himself out of the competition so that he could compete in the Junior PGA Championship at Sycamore Hills Golf Course in Fort Wayne, Ind. this weekend.

    Springfield's Matt Kirkland aced the par-3, 203-yard 16th hole.

This result was a big surprise to Kirkland.

"After I hit my tee shot, I started to put my club away. My playing partner was headed down the fairway when he turned back to me and said the ball kept rolling until it landed at the bottom of the hole," he said.
