Scohy Breaks From Field at Metropolitan

    Leaderboard  Photos

Jeff Scohy is on the verge of having a very, very good week.

After capturing a qualifying spot in the US Amateur Championship on Monday, Scohy is on top of the leader board at the Miami Valley Metropolitan Championship after three rounds of play.

The Bellbrook resident pulled away from the field on Saturday by shooting 3-under-par 68. Combined with his scores of 70 and 69 in the first two rounds, the former Metro match play champion is on the verge of capturing his first stroke play title.

Scohy will start the final round with a five-stroke lead over Sam Jandel, Cody Fixari, and last year's champion, Michael Bernard.

Jandel made some of the loudest noise on the leaderboard by shooting a round best 4-under-par 67. Jandel, who plays for the University of Illinois, rebounded from a second round 75 to put himself into contention.

Bernard also bounced back from a second round 75 to post a 70 on Saturday.

The Metropolitan Championship concludes tomorrow at Windy Knoll Golf Club in Springfield at 1:30 pm.

    News & Notes:

*Play was suspended for about two hours after a severe rainstorm.

*After posting a 76 first-round score, Pete Samborksy has fought his was back up the leaderboard. The four-time Metropolitan Champion was even in the second round and 3-under-par in the third and is tied for sixth place with 2005 winner Bob Jones at 2-over-par.
