    Bernard's Metro Repeat Chances Looking Good

    If you're worried about your upcoming high school schedule come fall and are participating the 2010 Metropolitan Championship, there's a good chance you are on  top of the leaderboard.

    At the end of the first round, Wayne High School sophomore and defending Metropolitan Champion Michael Bernard is tied with Northmont senior Nick Scott.

    Both shot 4-under 67 during their first day of play at Windy Knoll Golf Club in Springfield.

    Bernard, 16, is the reigning Ohio Amateur Champion while Scott, who recently qualified for the US Junior Am, will attend Kent State on a golf scholarship in the fall of 2011.

    Chris Sloan hopes to continue to pressure the leaders in the second round and is only one stroke off the lead. Ryan Bowen and Scott Thompson are also in contention and are tied for 4th with a pair of 69s. US Amateur Championship qualifier Jeff Scohy and 2005 Metropolitan Champion Bob Jones are tied with Sam Jandel. The trio shot 70 and are tied for 6th place.

    Four-time champion Pete Samborksy was even par through 13 until a 10 on number 14 derailed his round. Samborsky finished the day 5-over 76 and is tied for 35th place.

    The easiest hole of the day was number 6. Golfers averaged 4.84 strokes on this par-5, 530 yard hole. The most challenging hole of the day proved to be number 17. Competitors averaged 4.69 shots on this par-4, 412-yard hole. The round stroke average was 78.489.

    Following the conclusion of the second round, the field will be cut to 32 golfers. Check back for more details and keep track of scoring here.
